Apsolutna dominacija AMG odeljnja na ovogodišnjem odmeravanju snaga na Nordšlajfu. Tempo ostalih nemačkih marki nije bio na nivou, ali su top posade tih marki imale i mnogo manje sreće na tradicionalno veoma neizvesnoj trci gde je sreća veoma bitan faktor. To ne umanjuje veliki podvig timova koji su se opredelili da ove sezone nastupaju sa potpuno novim GT3 automobilom koji priprema AMG odeljenje.
Trka koja se vozi u sklopu VLN šampionata je počela da dobija na internacionalnom značaju i kao zasebna trka u proteklih 10-tak godina od kako je pravilnikom ustanovljeno da su GT3 automobili „kraljevska“ klasa na ovoj trci što je u paketu sa porastom popularnosti same Nordšlajf staze dovelo do toga da na ovoj trci iz godine u godinu nastupa sve veći broj fabričkih timova. Ovogodišnja trka se vozila pred 185.000 gledalaca koji su imali priliku da pored ove trke gledaju i FIA WTCC, FIA ETCC, Audi TT kup i Legends trke.
Ove godine pored standardnih nemačkih aktera – Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, tu su i japanski fabrički timovi (Toyota/Lexus i Nissan), britanski (Bentley, Aston Martin), dok su druge marke takođe prisutne sa fabričkim posadama u nižerazrednim klasama – VW, Opel, Hyundai.
I ove godine trka je imala period pod crvenom zastavom, ali je ovog puta to zaista bilo nešto što se jako retko dešava – velika oluja je potuno potopila stazu, a zatim je i prekrila ledom! Ogromna količina „grada“ je potpuno prekrila stazu ledom i toliko ohladila stazu da je tokom četiri časa organizator prekinuo trku i neutralizovao poslednji krug pred oluju, zato što je akvaplaning doneo veliki broj izletanja i oštećenja automobila, tako da je odlučeno da trka bude prekinuta dok se uslovi ne poboljšaju.

Na samom startu trke, jedni od konkurenata za pobedu u generalnom plasmanu, posada #911 (Tendi/Estre/Bamber/Pile) nakon izletanja završava trku nakon greške Nika Tendija. Kevin Estre je bio za volanom prethodnog dana kada je #911 Porsche 911 GT3R oštećen tokom Top30 kvalifikacija.
Kiša je počela da pada već u petom krugu, kada je na vodećoj poziciji bio Maro Engel u #9 Mercedesu ispred Jorg Milera u #18 BMW i Getza u #88 Mercedesu. Ogromna količina vode, a kasnije i grad su na krivini Armbert (a i na ostalim delovima staze) napravili pravi haos gde je 20-tak automobila izletelo, srećom samo nekoliko ih je bilo teže oštećeno. Gubitak kontrole se dešavao i pri veoma niskim brzinama – 30,40 kmč, tako da vozači i pored upozorenja koja su imali preko radia nisu bili spremni na toliko loše uslove.
Borba za vodeću poziciju između #18 Schubert BMW i #88 Haribo Mercedesa je vođena tokom večernjih časova, ali je kraj te borbe bio na Dotinger pravcu kada je motor na BMW M6 GT3 eksplodirao dok je za volanom bio Jorg Miler.
Posada #88 je bila u vođstvu tokom noći, dok je drugi Haribo Mercedes #8 imao udes na Flancgarten krivini tokom jutarnjih časova. Na drugom mestu je bila #4 Black Falcon Mercedes posada. Oba Aston Martin Vantage GT3 automobila su tokom noći bili teže oštećeni i nisu završili trku.
Na šest časova do kraja trke jedini preostali BMW koji je bio u poziciji da se bori za vodeću poziciju, #100 Schubert BMW je izbačen sa staze nakon što je u njega udario jedan od BMW autombila iz slabijih kategorija (nakon što je i taj BMW udaren od strane vozača u Ford Focus automobilu).
U ovom periodu su probleme imale i Audi posade koje tokom trke nisu bile u poziciji da se bore za pobedu iako su tokom proteklih godina Audi R8 posade mahom dominirale na ovoj trci. Aktuelni šampioni #1 WRT Audi su izleteli nakon što su naleteli na ulje na stazi, dok je Markus Vinkelhok u #6 Phoenix Audi naleteo na #28 Land Audi i izbacio obe posade sa trke.
U samom finišu trke, direktna borba za pobedu se vodila između #29 HTP Mercedesa (Kristian Hohenadl) i #4 Black Falcon Mercedesa (Maro Engel). Završnih pola sata trke je proteklo u spektakularnoj poteri, da bi Engel u poslednjem krugu trke uspeo da obiđe Hohenadla i odnese pobedu. Engel je u pretposlednjem krugu trke zabeležio i najbrži krug na ovogodišnjoj trci što dovoljno govori o tome koliko je žestok tempo bio u završnici, a da je pri tome ovaj dvojac morao da se probija kroz veliki broj automobila koji su zapravo usporavali u očekivanju završetka trke.

Nakon duže pauze, Mercedes AMG je pobednik na 24 Nordšlajf trke i to sa ubedljivh 1-2-3-4. Najbolje plasirana posada koja nije u Mercedes GT trkačkom automobilu je Rowe Racing #23 BMW M6, dok je na sedmom mestu #38 Abt Bentley posada. Iza njih se nalazi najbolje plasirana Audi R8 posada #2 WRT. Na devetom mestu je najbolje plasirani Porsche, dok se #35 Nissan nalazi na 11. mestu.
Na 15. mestu se nalazi najbolje plasirana SP7 posada #63 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, dok je na 20. mestu u generalnom plasmanu posada #106 u SP3T klasi sa Subaru WRX STI.
