Iako je Peugeot vodio tokom prve dve kvalifikacione sesije, Audi je pred kraj trećeg dela postavio dva svoja R18 TDI u prvi red startnog poretka za trku Le Mans 24H, dok je Peugeot morao da se zadovolji sa kompletnim drugim redom. Pole poziciju osvojila je posada Audi prototipa broj 2, u sastavu Marcel Fassler, Abdre Lotterer i Benoit Treluyer.

Od 2006. godine Audi nije bio na pole poziciji, pa se ovakav rezultat može donekle smatrati i iznenađenjem. Audi je prethodnih godina u kvalifikacijama dosta taktizirao, ne prikazujući svoje prave performanse, ili je pak zaista imao sporiji prototip ako se gledaju vremena po pojedinačnom brzom krugu. Startni raspored u endurans trci od 24 sata i nisu baš odlučujuće, pa je filozofija Audi tima bila da se u zauzimanju što boljih pozicija preterano i ne trudi i često je bez značajnije borbe prepuštao Peugeot ekipi – svom jedinom ozbiljnom protivniku – čast i medijsku pažnju koju pole pozicija donosi.
Prve dve sesije kalifikacija dale su naslutiti da će tako biti i ove godine, jer je Peugeot bio na vrhu i nakon prvog dela u četvrtak uveče i skoro do samog kraja drugog dela u petak predveče. Ali jedan izlet Marcel Fassler-a na kraju te druge sesije ukazao da se nešto možda menja: jedan Audi krenuo je snažnije i izbio napred ! Tokom poslednjeg, noćnog dela u petak, situacija je definitivno počela da se menja u tom pravcu. Prvi pokušaj preokreta uradio je Tom Kristensen vozeći Audi broj 3, ali ga je preveliki saobracaj u tom trenutku suviše ometao. Prvi Audi koji se popeo na čelo tabele postignutih vremena bio je prototip broj 1 kojeg je vozio Romain Dumas, koji je uspeo da pronađe čist put pred sobom i zabeleži vreme od 3m25.799s.
Sesija je zatim bila prekinuta nakon što je Ferrari broj 58 i Anthony Beltoise izleteo u Mulsanne krivini i udario u ograde. Po ulju prosutom po stazi okrenuo se i Christian Klien u #007 Aston Martin-u. Nakon 20 izgubljenih minuta, kvalifikacije su nastavljene, a 40 minuta pre ponoći i njihovog kraja usledio je najbolji krug: Benoit Treluyer postigao je sjajan rezultat od 3m25.738s i tako za samo 6 stotinki pretekao Audi postavu iz automobila broj 1.
Do kraja je bilo još pokušaja da se rezultati poprave, naročito se trudio šampion Tom Kristensen ali se njegov poslednji pokušaj završio izletanjem i blažim udarcem u krivini Tertre Rouge. Simon Pagenaud je pred sam kraj pomerio Peugeot broj 9 na treću poziciju, postigavši 3m26.010s. Sasvim očekivano, na prvih 6 mesta odnosno u sva tri prva reda rasporedili su se dominantni dizel prototipi Audi i Peugeot. Svih šest vodećih postigli su vremena u okviru pola sekunde, što najavljuje sjajnu brobu u trci.
Najbolji benzinski automobil iz LMP1 klase bio je dugo Pescarolo Judd, ali je na kraju Neel Jani sa krugom od 3m32.883s uspeo da postavi jedan Rebellion Racing Lola ispred Pescarolo prototipa. Nažalost, benzinski motori su se opet pokazali potpuno inferiornim, i pored zalaganja organizatora na performase nešto izjednače. Najbolje vreme prvog benzinca je preko 7 sekundi sporije. Ipak taktika u trci i ogrnaičenja u brzini dolivanja dizel goriva mogu ovaj zaostatak da u trci nadoknade. Ostaje da se vidi – u kojoj meri ?
U LMP2 klasi u poslednjim kvalifikacijama najbrži su bili Signatech ORECA-Nissan i posada Soheil Ayari/Franck Mailleux/Lucas Ordonez, ali nisu uspeli da nadmaše rezultate većeg broja LMP1 timova i krenuće sa 14. mesta.
Augusto Farfus postavio je nabolje GTE Pro vreme sa BMW-om broj 55. Njegovih 3m57.592s je skoro pola sekunde brže od onoga što su uspeli Ferrari AF Corse broj 51 i posada Gianmaria Bruni/Toni Vilander/Giancarlo Fisichella, a to je 3m58.040. Ferrari se tim vremenom ipak popeo ispred drugog BMW-a broj 56 koji voze Andy Priaulx/Dirk Muller/Joey Hand, a koji zbog nezgode iz prethodnog dela nije učestvovao u poslednjoj sesiji.
AF Corse iz GTR Am klase imao je i više uspeha – njihov Ferrari F430 broj 61 koji voze Piergiuseppe Perazzini, Marco Cioci i Sean Paul Breslin ubedljivo je najbrži automobil u toj kategoriji, sa preko 2 sekunde po krugu boljim vremenom od konkurencije.
