Pavlovic completes 2009 F2 field
By Matt Beer Friday, February 27th 2009, 18:46 GMT
Milos Pavlovic has completed the field for the first season of the revived Formula Two Championship.
The 26-year-old Serbian is the 24th and final driver to sign up for the 2009 F2 series, which commences at Valencia at the end of May.
Former Italian Formula 3 and World Series Lights champion Pavlovic had a disappointing part-season in GP2 last year with BCN, having joined the Formula One support category after three seasons as a World Series by Renault front-runner.
"I am very excited to be a part of a championship that is bringing something new to the world of single seater racing," said Pavlovic.
"The budgets are realistic and drivers are able to show their qualities against tough competition in an equal environment. I'm looking forward to meeting the challenge and doing my very best."
Pavlovic is the third ex-GP2 driver to join F2, along with Andy Soucek and Carlos Iaconelli.
F2 boss Jonathan Palmer expects Pavlovic to be among the main contenders for this year's title.
"He's a successful and very experienced single seater racer, and I expect him to be challenging near the front of the field from the outset," he said.
Palmer added that he was extremely satisfied with the field for the inaugural season of F2's new era.
"By confirming Milos we have now announced our full line-up of 24 drivers from 15 different countries, a remarkable feat given we won the tender to operate the championship as recently as September last year," he said.
The new F2 car - designed by the Williams F1 team - will be launched at Brands Hatch on Monday.
